Kurt Ammann – Solo Show

29 Arts In Progress Gallery, Milan

March 17 – April 1, 2017

Curated by Giovanni Pelloso

The exhibition pays tribute to Kurt Ammann, Swiss photographer and witness to a society recovering after the horrors of World War II. Thirty photographs taken over a twenty-year period (between the late 1940s and the late 1960s) recount the newfound “joie de vivre” of people who, having passed through the violence and pain of the recently concluded conflict, were opening up to a future finally filled with hope and expectation. Ammann’s images return the feelings and moods of simple people and important figures in 20th-century European art and culture, from Marc Chagall to Ingeborg Bachmann, from Oskar Kokoschka to Federico Fellini. It is as if, in the ephemeral passing of a moment, his camera captured a permanent and lasting feeling of serenity and happiness. The exhibition also shows some of his many reportages around the world, from Mexico to Brazil, from South Korea to Ghana, from the United States to European capitals.
